One of the biggest and most popular genres in the market today are thrillers. The umbrella term for this genre changes, depending on whose talking, but they tend to encompass everything from crime, mystery, and horror, with a lot of overlap between all of these genres.

While this genre has been popular for years - thanks to some of the leading mystery novels such as Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle or the original thrillers such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Over the years, crime and mystery books have proven to be popular, with each year bringing the latest record-breaker or adaptation that seems to reinvent the genre. In recent years, it's been Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl or Paula Hawkins' The Girl on the Train that have been a new audience flock to this genre.

Now enter the domestic, psychological thrillers.

This genre is always expanding in its collection and has a high turn over rate at the library, stocking the shelves of the short loans constantly. There are common elements in these books, such as a female protagonist, a domestic setting such as a house or apartment, and common plot themes as secrets, lies, infidelity, and/or murder, kidnapping, etc. There's also been a rallying of a common audience for these books: women, usually aged between 25 and 65.

I was, admittedly, not familiar with this genre before beginning this blog, but it's a genre that's always interested me. And once I read one book - I started with The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen - and fell in love. This blog is now not only a list of recommendations for other like-minded readers interested in the genre, but a running catalogue of books I want to read myself!
